“These Jordan 5s touch my soul.” These are the very words that fashion mogul Virgil Abloh posted to his Twitter account this morning, clearly expressing his emotions and excitement over his forthcoming collaboration with Jordan Brand. After the success of his AJ1 iterations and revealing of multiple AJ4 samples at his MCA Chicago exhibition earlier this year, the sneaker community wondered what the next move for the Off-White designer would be in terms of working with the Jumpman again. But now we have our answer, and as 2020 is just upon the horizon, so is another collaboration between the two iconic imprints, arriving in the form of the Air Jordan 5. Once again seen bringing in his deconstructed flair to the forefront, this upcoming rendition ditches the silhouette’s traditional leather constructions and opts for a full synthetic/slightly-translucent exterior.
Despite early conflicting rumors, the was officially revealed on the feet of models and Virgil Abloh during the show, the upcoming collaboration reimagines the OG “Black Metallic” colorway classic Jordan Brand silhouette with a striking translucent TPE deconstructed design. The signature midfoot cages on the shoe have also been opened up with circular cutouts and accented by exposed black stitching, recalling elements established with Virgil’s previous “Ghosting” releases.
